2 Years Later, Remembering Wes Craven With Fun Behind the Scenes Photos

Two years ago today, we lost one of horror’s true masters.

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was brew a cup of coffee and click the play button on the latest episode of Mick Garris’ Post Mortem podcast. The episode was intentionally released on the anniversary of Wes Craven‘s 2015 death, as it’s dedicated to Garris and Englund remembering their friend.

Listening to the episode made me think of my own memories of Wes Craven, and it also made me miss him all over again. Like most horror fans, I’m still bummed that I’ll never again have the pleasure of buying a ticket to see a new Craven movie. But I also miss Craven’s overall presence in my life.

Granted, I didn’t have any personal relationship with Craven, but his daily social media activity always brought a smile to my face. Not only would he regularly post fun photos on Instagram, often of himself wearing goofy t-shirts, but he’d also regularly interact with fans on Twitter. On more than one occasion, he interacted with me.

You could tell he enjoyed it. And that made me love him that much more.

As Robert Englund and Mick Garris recall in the aforementioned episode of Post Mortem, Wes Craven was a big old kid at heart, with a childish sense of humor that one probably wouldn’t expect from a man who brought so many nightmares into the world. He was as good at scaring people as he was at making them smile, and we could certainly all use a smile on the anniversary of his monumental loss.

It’s for that reason that I’ve decided to put together and share some of my favorite behind the scenes photos of Wes Craven, from the sets of his horror classics.

We miss you forever, Wes.
