Stephen King Teases New Adaptations of ‘Salem’s Lot’ and ‘The Stand’
If you thought the Stephen King renaissance was already in full swing, well, let’s just say you can expect a whole lot more now that IT has smashed box office records.
With Gerald’s Game arriving on Netflix this week and 1922 coming next month, you may be wondering what the next King tale to get an adaptation/re-adaptation will be. We already know Andy Muschietti (IT) is hungry to make his own version of Pet Sematary, but what else is (potentially) on the menu for the future?
Speaking with Vulture this week, Stephen King himself teased that, for starters, new adaptations of Salem’s Lot and The Stand are at the very least being discussed!
“There’s talk about doing The Stand as an extended TV series, possibly for Showtime or CBS All Access,” King told the site. “And there’s been some interest in developing Salem’s Lot as a feature, probably because people are saying, ‘Well, we took an old miniseries called IT and turned it into a phenomenon, so maybe we can do it with something else.’ Nothing succeeds like excess!”
King also commented on Insomnia being turned into a virtual reality series, which has been talked about for a while now. He says he hasn’t heard a peep about the project in some time, but he doesn’t think it’s dead in the water. Furthermore, he teased a top secret animated project.
“There’s talk about another thing, an animated feature, but I can’t tell you anything further — it’s a secret,” said King. “That looks like it might happen.”
Strap yourselves in, King fans. These are exciting times!

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
