You can count me among the fans of 2014’s Maleficent, a dark fantasy starring Angelina Jolie as the title character. The film, directed by Robert Stromberg, humanized one of Disney’s most iconic villains, and it proved to be a pretty massive hit at the box office.
Not surprisingly, a sequel is on the way.
Deadline reports this week that Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is in talks to direct the untitled Maleficent sequel, expected to begin filming in early 2018.
Angelina Jolie will return as Maleficent.
Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton had been working on the script for producer Joe Roth, Deadline notes.
