Would You Spend $375 For an ‘Inside’ Collector’s Edition?

Published

on

UPDATE: For clarification, The Inside Collector’s Edition is only available to pre-order from the iam8bit US store, but will ship worldwide.

Chalk this one up to the morbidly curious.

iam8bit and RealDoll (yes, that RealDoll) are partnering with Inside developer Playdead on a mysterious collector’s edition for the award-winning game. Seriously, other than the PlayStation 4 version of the game on disc, and Steam keys for both Inside and Playdead’s earlier hit, Limbo, nothing else is known about this Collector’s Edition. Available only in the US and in limited quantities (that will be determined by the total number of orders placed by Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:59pm PST), the set will set you back $375 USD, and is expected to ship Q1 2019. At that time, the full contents of the Collector’s Edition will be revealed.

If you think I’m blowing smoke, check out the order page. If I ever wanted to gamble on something, even I don’t know if I would plunk down $375 plus shipping for something like this. But, if you are the type (and are a hardcore Inside and Limbo fan), then by means, satisfy your curiosity, and ours.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
