I’ll always have a soft spot for Sega’s classic arcade driving sim, Out Run. It’s one of those titles that you play on a lazy day, envisioning that you’re driving on the open road, radio blaring and the wind in your hair. Now, contrast that with indieDB user Ondrej_Svadlena and their horror-tinged open-world driving sim, BEWARE.
The game, which is still in development, just had a demo released for players to check out. Contrasting the bright, sunny driving in your typical driving games is the dark, sometimes rainy, sometimes foggy but very lonely surroundings. Think of it as your typical horror trope of driving on a deserted stretch of road in video game form.
The story for the game has you “embark[ing] on a long journey of information-gathering through exploration”. Doesn’t sound like much, until you get into the “intense, 70’s movies style, car chases with challenging AI opponents”. There’s also a stealth component, where you must creep along in your car without detection.
BEWARE certainly looks like it’d be a blast to play on a cold, rainy night. And definitely one game to keep an eye on if you’re looking to experience the tension of being tailed by someone at night on the highway (from the comfort of your home, obviously).
