[TGS 2018] New ‘Death Stranding’ Trailer Reveals Man in the Golden Mask

Hideo Kojima had downplayed the chance of there being much new to show of Death Stranding at the Tokyo Games Show, but we did get something in a short trailer with a new character revealed.

The trailer sees Norman Reedus’ Sam happen upon a man with a Southern drawl, dressed in similar garb (including that baby in a jar strapped to his front) and a striking gold skull mask. That man, dubbed ‘Man in the Golden Mask’,  doesn’t seem like a big fan of Sam considering the ‘present’ he leaves him. Taking off his faceplate and driving it into the oily ground, he summons a huge oil beast that emits a guttural roar. So I guess boss fights are a thing for Death Stranding.

The new antagonist is played by Troy Baker, who played Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He joins Tommie Earl Jenkins, who was also announced as a cast member at TGS 2018. His previous work includes World of Warcraft, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and Law and Order: True Crime. Personally speaking, he’s most recognizable as the voice of Ubercorn in British children’s TV show Go-Jetters.

That wasn’t all though. A Hideo Kojima game just doesn’t feel complete without gorgeous character art by Yoji Shinkawa and we got exactly that during the PlayStation Booth panel for the game.

We’re not any closer to knowing exactly how Death Stranding will play, but always nice to see Kojima get freaky.

Death Stranding will arrive on PS4 at some point in the future, but a release date is yet to be announced.
