Latest Dev Diary For Hardcore RPG ‘Outward’ Focuses on Survival

Developer Nine Dots has released a second Dev Diary for its upcoming hardcore survival RPG Outward, with new footage focusing on how you’ll have to endure the unforgiving world as you travel through it.

You can watch the Dev Diary in the video below.

Unlike most RPG’s Outward doesn’t have over-exaggerated inventory space, rather you have a backpack that can only carry a finite amount of weaponry, equipment, and food. If you want to carry a bit more, you’ll need a bigger, more robust backpack.

Survival is a key component of this action RPG that puts realism side-by-side-with fantasy. So there’s going to be plenty of juggling to be done to ensure you don’t starve or get bludgeoned to death by a wandering monster. The elements and disease are also a factor in how long you can stay alive. It’s just you, a compass, and a map against a large, varied landscape that you’ll constantly need to adapt to.

It’s certainly an intriguing mashup of the popular action RPG and survival game formulas. We’ll see if it pulls it all together when it launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 26, 2019.
