For the first time since its release more than twenty years ago, the original Diablo is now available in digital download form.
GOG.com has a DRM-free vanilla version (complete with Battle.net multiplayer) of the seminal dungeon crawler, previously only in boxed psychical form, up for sale at $9.99. There’s also an enhanced edition with upscaled resolution too.
If that wasn’t enough, classic Warcraft is also on the way in the shape of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II. A fine time to be a fan of classic Blizzard titles, that’s for sure.
Blizzard VP Rob Bridenbecker made a statement regarding this announcement, which sees Diablo available on GOG.com rather than Blizzard’s own store.
“We were bummed that these iconic games weren’t available to our players, so we’re very happy to work with the crew at GOG.com to rectify that. This has been a long time coming and we hope our players will be excited to jump back into these classic titles.”
Blizzard is also set to remaster Warcraft III in future, so the slate of old titles getting re-releases is pretty large for the company. Great news, and I’m sure it will distract people from that whole Diablo Immortal fiasco now.
