Texas Frightmare Weekend is back this May 3-5, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and has announced the full lineup of films that will be screening as part of its film festival, which is a free event for all Texas Frightmare Weekend pass holders (passes are $30 per day or $60 for the full three-day weekend). In a rather fun coincidence, the convention will be celebrating its 14th year with 14 feature films (and eleven short films) as part of that festival. Arrow Video, Wild Eye Releasing, Millman Productions and several indie companies will be screening films all weekend long. Of the 14 feature-length films, three will be restorations of classic horror films and one will be a secret screening of an unreleased film.

The full lineup is detailed below, per Texas Frightmare Weekend:

The Dead Center – A hospital psychiatrist’s own sanity is pushed to the edge when a frightened amnesiac patient insists that he has died and brought something terrible back from the other side.

Dolls – A struggling children’s book author and his rebellious teenage daughter move into a house they’ve inherited and find mysterious dolls in the attic. The father and daughter soon learn that the dolls have a sinister – and deadly – past. Starring Dee Wallace. (World Premiere)

The Child Remains – An expectant couple’s intimate weekend turns to terror as they discover their secluded country inn is a haunted maternity home where infants and mothers were murdered. (Texas Premiere)

Amazon Hot Box – An innocent college student is tossed into a jungle hellhole where she must fight for her life against an evil wardress, psycho inmates, voodoo experiments and the incredible torture machine.

Ghost in the Graveyard – The dead ghost of a little girl comes back to haunt the two girls that witnessed her death in a game of “Ghost in the Graveyard 1,2,3…” But Why? From writer director Charlie Comparetto.

Reborn – A stillborn baby girl is brought back to life by a morgue attendant using electrokinetic power. On her sixteenth birthday she escapes her captor and sets out to find her birth mother, leaving a trail of destruction behind her. Starring Barbara Crampton.

The VelociPastor – After a devastating family tragedy, a priest travels to China to find deeper spirituality, but instead is endowed with an ancient ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. At first, he is horrified by his newfound superpower, but a local prostitute convinces him to use his newfound gift to fight evil – and ninjas.

Framed – On Alex’s farewell party with his friends, three strange invaders will kidnap them with the only goal of playing twisted mortal games while they stream it, turning all this insane torture into a viral show. Framed is a dark glimpse with touches of black humor into the excess and overuse of social media by a part of society totally abandoned to virality.

I’ll Take Your Dead – William has a simple job: he makes dead bodies disappear. This isn’t something he likes to or even wants to do, but through circumstances out of his control, his little farm house in the country has become a dumping ground for the casualties of the gang-related murders in the nearby city. His daughter Gloria has become used to rough looking men dropping off corpses and is even convinced that some of them are haunting their house. After a woman’s body is dumped at the house, William begins his meticulous process when he realizes she’s not actually dead. As the gang activity increases, William patches the woman up and holds her against her will until he can figure out what to do. As they begin to develop a very unusual respect for each other, the woman’s murderers get word that she’s still alive and make plan to go finish what they started.

The Bray Road BeastAn in-depth exploration of the real-life werewolf/dogman phenomenon, which spans from the eerie back roads of Wisconsin to the fields and villages of Europe where sightings of upright canids date back centuries. Is there more to these sightings than simple misidentifications of known animals or a hidden species of wolf?  Join director Seth Breedlove and narrator Lyle Blackburn as they explore the possibilities in this award-winning documentary feature film.

In addition to the 10 films listed above, Texas Frightmare Weekend will also screen all-new restorations of three classic films, presented by Arrow Video:

The Prey – Six campers jaunt off to North Point, where they’re promptly stalked and killed by a ghoulish man who ultimately is just looking for a little love.

The Child – A newly hired house-keeper in a secluded area is alarmed to discover that her boss’s eleven-year-old daughter is using her supernatural powers to take revenge on the people she holds responsible for her mother’s death, with the aid of her flesh-eating zombie ‘friends’.

Trapped Alive – A sheriff’s deputy, some escaped prisoners and two young girls find themselves trapped in a mine shaft where a cannibalistic mutant is hunting them for food.

Two separate short film blocks will also be featured on Friday and Saturday.

Below are posters for the films being screened.

Texas Frightmare Weekend is presented by Arrow Video. Now celebrating its 14th year, the event takes place annually in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Platform 2 Netflix

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s The Platform was a massive hit for Netflix back in 2020, becoming one of the most watched original movies in the streaming service’s history.

Coming soon? The Platform 2! Netflix has shared two first look images from the upcoming sequel this morning, which will again be directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.

Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian star in The Platform 2.

Netflix previews, “A mysterious figure has managed to establish a new law in The Platform, but can justice truly be enforced in hell? And who will enforce it?”

No word yet on a Netflix premiere date for The Platform 2. Stay tuned.

The first film is set inside a vertical prison system, where inmates are assigned to a level and forced to ration food from a platform that moves between the floors. Inmates on high floors eat better than those below, and one man tries to effect change so everyone gets enough.

Rafael reviewed The Platform for us at TIFF, raving in his 4.5-star write-up: “The Platform takes full advantage of its isolated setting and small cast to instead focus on a high concept, a tight script, and sharp dialogue that will make you laugh as often as it will make you think. This is a funny, heartfelt, at times disgusting, yet also thought-provoking sci-fi thriller that reminds of Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer, but with way better food.”

The Platform also made Daniel Kurland’s Best International Horror Films of 2020 list.
