[Video] Cody Matthew Johnson on the Making of Dante’s ‘Devil May Cry 5’ Theme ‘Subhuman’

If you’ve played Devil May Cry 5 (and you should) you’ll have noticed it has a pretty awesome soundtrack. There are multiple artists at work throughout, and while everyone knows all about the insanely popular ‘Devil Trigger’, the rest more than holds its own.

Take Dante’s theme. ‘Subhuman’ is a crunchy blend of metal, synth, and classical swells that suits the veteran demon slayer’s aggressive swagger to a tee. Now, its composer, Cody Matthew Johnson, has taken to Capcom’s YouTube channel to explain his process for creating the track.

Johnson went deep into fandom territory to get a proper feel for what Devil May Cry fans want out of a Devil May Cry tune, and came out the other side with the tools to create a melodic, chugging instrument of destruction.

Devil May Cry 5 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
