Alongside Suda51’s Killer7, Southend Interactive’s 2003 shooter XIII is probably one of the more unorthodox yet stylistic shooters to grace that generation’s console market. And like Killer7, it’s now getting a remake, courtesy of publisher Microids and developer PlayMagic.
Set for release digitally and physically on November 13th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC, the game casts you as “Thirteen,” a talented soldier (voiced by David Duchovny) who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo “XIII” next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers.
According to PlayMagic CEO and creative director Giuseppe Crugliano, the game will be receiving an overhaul in everything from the graphics, sound and animations, as well as its gameplay mechanics to “modernize the experience in a way that encompasses the original spirit of the game.”
“Revisiting this game came naturally as we felt this unique kind of story driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape,” said Microids head of production Francois Coulon. “Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animations.”
