As we head towards the fourth annual “Alien Day” this Friday, we’ve learned the sad news today that the original film’s editor, Terry Rawlings, has passed away at the age of 86.
In addition to editing Ridley Scott’s Alien, Rawlings also edited The Sentinel, Watership Down, Blade Runner, Legend, F/X, Alien 3, GoldenEye and 2004’s Phantom of the Opera.
Terry Rawlings was nominated for an Oscar in 1982 for his editing work on Chariots of Fire, and he was also nominated for four BAFTA Awards between 1970 and 1983.
Rawlings died Tuesday at his home in Hertfordshire, England, the Guild of British Film and Television Editors told The Hollywood Reporter.
