Lollipop Chainsaw fans not only have their first look at the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster this morning, but also have a release date of September 25 digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam. On top of all of that, Gematsu was able to sit down with Dragami Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda to glean a few more details for the game.

Physical editions of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be available in October worldwide, with more information to be announced at a later date.

Several tweaks have been made to the base game with RePOP, which offers two modes: Original Mode and RePOP mode, the latter using “a unique and colorful pop art-inspired art style for damage effects.” Here’s the rundown for the tweaks:

• Resolution has been increased to full HD, with reduced load times.
• The introduction of the Chained Hits Hunting system, in which chaining multiple hits with the chainsaw in succession increases the player’s attack speed.
• The input timings for Combo Actions have been adjusted, to better fit players’ expectations.
• Chainsaw Blaster action has been improved with the addition of auto-lock and auto-fire modes that can be toggled, and an increased maximum ammo count of 99.
• Combo Actions can be used from the start of the game.

That’s in addition to the new gameplay content for RePOP. In addition to the new RePOP mode, players can also find new chainsaws with “distinctly different features” in the game, 30 costumes (no word on if the Ash from Evil Dead pre-order costume will be one of them) with 4 new hair colors and 4 new chainsaws, a new Time Attack mode, and Juliet’s Room has been expanded with more features.

Meanwhile, in his interview with Gematsu, Dragami Games CEO Yoshimi Yasuda talked about bringing Lollipop Chainsaw back after receiving “several proposals from companies overseas” to develop a remake, in addition to the fact that the game’s expiring music licenses made it difficult for fans to get a copy (since it had to be discontinued).

Sadly, those same music licenses have forced Dragami to redo some of the music. “We enlisted artists active in Japanese film, drama, anime, and game music to make tracks such as a new original theme song for Juliet and background music for Star Mode and Nick Attacks.” Yasuda admits that the original licensed music fit Lollipop Chainsaw perfectly,  he believes that Dragami’s attempt to have contemporary musicians create music to fit the game’s world is “equally great.”

As for gameplay changes, Yasuda acknowledged that while the chainsaw is a slow weapon, Dragami had received feedback from players that the attacks with the chainsaw felt “tedious”. The solution is the new Chain Hit Hunting mechanic, which aims to “alleviate monotony and sluggishness that might be found in the chainsaw combat.” That’s on top of extending the input window for combo commands.
