Mortal Kombat and “The Man in the High Castle” actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa passed away due to complications from a stroke yesterday. He was 75.
Tagawa is best known for playing evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in the 1995 adaptation of Mortal Kombat.
He reprised the role with guest appearances in the series “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” and “Mortal Kombat X: Generations.” He went on to voice the character in the video game Mortal Kombat 11 and lend his likeness to the role-playing video game Mortal Kombat: Onslaught.
More recently, Tagawa co-starred in the first three seasons of “The Man in the High Castle.” He played Nobusuke Tagomi, the Trade Minister of the Japanese Pacific States, in Prime Video’s Philip K. Dick series adaptation.
Tagawa made his screen debut in an uncredited role as a swordsman in Big Trouble in Little China and later reunited with John Carpenter on Vampires.
His other genre credits include Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, Spellbinder, Sky Sharks, and episodes of “Poltergeist: The Legacy” and “Teen Wolf.”
Tagawa also appeared in The Last Emperor, Memoirs of a Geisha, Pearl Harbor, 47 Ronin, Licence to Kill, The Phantom, Elektra, Tekken, Showdown in Little Tokyo, and “Lost in Space” among others.
