Netflix’s insane new genre offering Daybreak hits the streaming platform today. The Boo Crew burns thru the zombie apocalypse with one of the shows’ stars – Emmy nominated 12 year old actress Alyvia Alyn Lind!
Premiering at New York’s Comic-Con, Daybreak follows 17 year old Josh who is searching for his missing girlfriend Sam. Josh bands together with a group of misfit teenagers who all try to survive post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Only thing is, the extinction level event seems to have spared ONLY the young and transformed any remaining adults into blood thirsty living dead known as “ghoulies” who are trying to take them down. We asked Alyvia to talk a little bit about her fascinating, blowtorch wielding, foul mouthed, punk rock character.
“So Angelica is a ten-year-old pyromaniac rebel, I love her. In the pre-apocalypse, she’s kind of excluded from her family and she’s homeschooled and she doesn’t have many friends. When the apocalypse happens she finds it as an excuse to find her tribe and find the people who will be there for her and people who will love her.”
As for what to expect from the show? “Lots of gore, lots of crazy deaths and ghoulies and blood everywhere,” she adds “It was really fun because I’m OBSESSED with Halloween and gore and anything like that!”
Alyvia is a MASSIVE horror fan who has been to more haunts and escape rooms than you can count, has attended a real life seance and whose entire amazing family has been closely involved with the genre, both in front of and behind the camera! Most recently, her sister Emily will appear in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Doctor Sleep and has already been in films like The Babysitter and The Haunting in Connecticut 2. Her eldest sibling Natalie starred in genre projects such as Gotham, Fox’s The Gifted and stars in season 2 of Kevin Williamson’s Tell Me A Story. So we had to ask if there was a real life apocalypse and she could only pick a handful of horror films to bring with her, what would those be?
“That’s a hard one, I’m trying to think of ones that I can watch over and over and never get sick of cause Scream‘s definitely one of them. Friday the 13th is a really good one, that’s one of my favorites. I’m gonna say Texas Chainsaw Massacre, It Follows and then The Purge”
