Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. Tradition tells us to spend quality time with family and friends while surrounding ourselves with holiday cheer. But what do we do when joy is unavailable?
Sometimes, financial hardship, random tragedy, or death in the family prevents us from spending the season in Hallmark style. John McPhail’s Anna and the Apocalypse explores this isolating experience with a picturesque Christmas plagued by zombies.
Anna (Ella Hunt) is ready to turn her life around just in time for a gap year abroad. But her father is still mourning her mother’s death and doesn’t want to let his only daughter go. Complicating matters, her best friend John (Malcolm Cumming) clearly wants a romantic relationship, and her crush Nick (Ben Wiggins) may be responsible for rumors about their recent hookup spreading through their small private school. Steph (Sarah Swire) has been abandoned by her parents and girlfriend and must deal with bullying from Principal Savage (Paul Kaye). The only people with any holiday cheer are Lisa (Marli Siu) and Chris (Christopher Leveaux), who have fallen head over heels for each other.
But all this drama takes a backseat when a zombie apocalypse ravages the UK, and they must come together in order to survive.
