[Podcasts] The Boo Crew Celebrates 10 Years of ‘Jennifer’s Body’ with Megan Fox!

Published

On Episode 69, we take a trip back to Devil’s Kettle High School with Megan Fox to celebrate the 10 Year Anniversary of Jennifer’s Body. Hear her in an absolutely fascinating conversation about her connection to the paranormal, her deep interest in the Ark of the Covenant, knowledge of ancient mysteries and archaeology. Sparked by her television show Legends of the Lost with Megan Fox, where Fox embarks on an epic international journey to investigate and find answers to enduring mysteries of ancient sites.

On pitching her TV show idea, Fox told us: “Initially I went in and I basically was like I think I know where the ark of the covenant is. I think it was real. I think I know who has it. If any human being stands a chance to be granted permission to see it, it’s me. And for whatever reason, I’m Neo in the Matrix – it’s me – I’ve been chosen I know it, I know I can do it. And essentially we sold the show like that.”

Megan then discusses how she became involved in Jennifer’s Body, the secrets behind her performance, shooting her favorite scene and her thoughts looking back on the film today.

Reflecting back on filming the movie Megan recalls, “It resonated with me on a really deep level, in particular the scene where Jennifer is being sacrificed by the boy band. When I got to set and actually filmed that scene, so much more came out of me than I even anticipated and I think it took Karyn (Director Karyn Kusama) aback a little bit, because I think it was more than she was ready for. At that time in my life, this sort of allegory for me or the experience why it was resonating was that boy band for me was kind of the movie studios at the time. I felt like that’s what they were willing to do to me to get the movie that they needed to make. They didn’t care that I needed to be sacrificed in the process. They didn’t care about my mental, physical, spiritual well being – that wasn’t even a thought. It was a joke. And so they were willing to gut me if they had to in order to get the end product that they needed.”

Also on this Special 10th Anniversary Special episode, fresh from the Boo Crew archives, you’ll listen to Jennifer’s Body‘s Oscar winning writer Diablo Cody and the film’s co-star Adam Brody reflect on memories of making the film and its recent rediscovery within the horror genre.

Shakespearean Education in the Vincent Price-Starring ‘Theater of Blood’ [Horror Queers Podcast]

Butch knows best…

After concluding May with discussions of the disaster “slasher” The Poseidon Adventure (listen) and Michael Biehn’s demon twink in the messy-but-watchable The Fan (listen), we’re heading back to the ’70s to discuss our very first Vincent Price film in Douglas Hickox‘s horror comedy Theater of Blood (1973).

In Theater of Blood, Vincent Price stars as Edward Lionheart, a disgraced Shakespearean actor who begins targeting the critics who shamed him. The gimmick? He’s taking inspiration from the death scenes in William Shakespeare’s plays! Aiding him is his daughter Edwina (Diana Rigg), who acts as the honeypot for her father’s macabre scheme.

Episode 388: Theater of Blood (1973)

Brush up on your Shakespeare and protect those poodles because we’re covering our very first Vincent Price film in Douglas Hickox’s horror comedy Theater of Blood (1973), a personal favorite of both Price and Diana Rigg.

Join us as we go all in on this somewhat episodic (but also educational!) proto-slasher, wondering if we’re supposed to know that’s Diana Rigg in hippie drag, and cackling at some of these murder set pieces.

Plus, “Handsy Dickman,” narcissistic gravestones, antisemitic stage makeup, and the ultimate debate: is it theatER or theatRE?

C/W: Attempted suicide, off-screen dog murder.
