On Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew podcast episode 100, the ‘Crew sits down with actor, writer, producer and director Alex Wolff. He’s best known throughout the horror community for his role as Peter in Ari Aster’s stunning tour de force, HEREDITARY.
Discussing his favorite horror movies growing up, Wolff mentions “One of my favorites is ROSEMARY’S BABY. It’s the one I always go back to. I think it’s a perfect movie and I’m so inspired by Cassavetes’ and Mia Farrow’s performance in that…I just think it’s like a masterpiece. That and THE EXORCIST and AMERICAN PSYCHO and all the classics. But I see all of them.”
When discussing HEREDITARY on the episode, Alex talks about filming some key scenes which many have regarded for their award-winning performances not only from him but also Toni Collette (like the incredible why-wasn’t-it-nominated-for-an-Oscar dining room sequence) as well as some self-inflicted facial trauma.
Wolff has not only proven to be an amazing actor, he’s also a brilliant up and coming filmmaker himself. In his directorial debut THE CAT AND THE MOON (available on digital now) he stars in, wrote, directed, produced, and scored a coming of age movie set in the heart of New York City. Though it’s not a genre movie, it’s a great film showcasing his directorial and acting chops, playing a rebellious high school teen coming to grips with the pressures teens face as well as dealing with the tragedy of his parents and their past issues which have affected him personally. The movie also stars Stefania LaVie Owen, Skyler Gisondo and Mike Epps.
On writing and directing his next film, Wolff shared this exclusive with the Boo Crew, “Well I wrote another script and I’m making it super disturbing. So it kind is a horror movie. I mean it’s really not a horror movie; it just really is disturbing. I’m just going to break the ice. Nic (Cage) is involved in it. He’s producing it. You guys got the official announcement. He’s going to produce it with me. He really responded to the script. We just have similar sensibilities. I’m just really excited about it. It’s psychological drama/thriller and Justice Smith is going to be starring in it. I’m really really pumped about it.”
