Horror Queers Blade

Blood Rave, Baby.

After heading back to the ’30s to check in with Countess Zaleska in Lambert Hillyer’s queer horror classic Dracula’s Daughter and hitting the road with Steve Zahn and Paul Walker in Joy Ride, we went back to Haddonfield to discuss David Gordon Green’s 2018 sequel Halloween. Now we’re heading back to the ’90s to discuss everyone’s favorite vampire-killing Marvel superhero: Blade!

In the film, a half-mortal, half-immortal named Blade (Wesley Snipes) is out to avenge his mother’s (Sanaa Lathan) death and rid the world of vampires. The modern-day technologically-advanced vampires he is going after are in search of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race.

Episode 148 – Blade (1998)

Climb out of your primo IKEA coffin and grab your garlic mace because we’re heading back to the ’90s to talk about everyone’s favorite Marvel superhero: Blade (1998)! Joining us for the discussion is Ky Fields, the host of the Monstrosities Voice podcast and founder of the KyFx Horror Group!

Join us as we discuss how Blade saved comic book movies before going all in on the film’s opening blood rave sequence (which features some candid talk from Trace and Ky), Joe’s Stephen Dorff‘s obsession and all of us gushing over how sexually charged this movie is!

Plus, pronunciation errors abound, morgues on the 8th floor, a magical Clueless computer, Jumanji drums, Blade literally boning his mom and a lengthy tangent on The Faculty! There’s a lot going on in this episode, everybody!

Cross out Blade!

“Life was a wheel, its only job was to turn, and it always came back to where it started.”

The Losers’ Club: A Stephen King Podcast heads to Frazier, New Hampshire to review Stephen King’s 2013 novel, Doctor Sleep. The sequel to 1977’s The Shining follows a much-older Danny Torrance, whose battle with alcoholism becomes all the more complicated when he crosses paths with a young child who also has the shine.

Join Losers Randall Colburn, Michael Roffman, and Dan Caffrey as they discuss the True Knot, dirty dishes with poundcake, and debate if King should have ever burned down The Overlook Hotel. Note: This episode was recorded in 2019 and is being re-released today as part of their ensuing chronological read-through.

Stream the discussion below and stay tuned next week for an episode on Bryan Fuller’s Carrie. For further adventures, join the Club over long days and pleasant nights via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, RadioPublic, Acast, Google Podcasts, and RSS.
