Exploring Rape Revenge in David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ [Horror Queers Podcast]
Tic for Tac.
After spending our 150th episode extravaganza with The Lost Boys and closing out November with some Satanists in The Seventh Victim , we kicked off December with the queer-coded antichrist in Fear No Evil. Now, we’re getting into the winter season with David Fincher‘s 2011 adaptation of Stieg Larsson‘s novel that set the world on fire: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!
The film sees disgraced financial reporter Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) finds a chance to redeem his honor after being hired by wealthy Swedish industrialist Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer) to solve the 40-year-old murder of Vanger’s niece, Harriet. Vanger believes that Harriet was killed by a member of his own family. Eventually joining Blomkvist on his dangerous quest for the truth is Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), an unusual but ingenious investigator whose fragile trust is not easily won.

Episode 155 – The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Pack your parka and fine-tune your hacker skills because we’re heading to Sweden to discuss David Fincher’s 2011 adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s global phenomenon of a novel: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!
Join us as we offer all the praise to Rooney Mara, who really had the deck stacked against her when it came to taking on the role of Lisbeth Salander (she’s great in this film) before diving into the complicated mystery at the center of the film and question Daniel Craig’s penchant for queer-coded torture scenes.
Plus, Joe’s hilarious theater-going anecdotes, a James Bond-ish opening credits sequence, Trace’s complete and total lack of awareness of NIN (and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and two very candid (and unedited!) conversations about rape revenge.
Cross out The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo!
Coming up on Wednesday: We’re heading back to Gotham City to discuss the queer-coded (and horny) villains in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns!
P.S. Subscribe to our Patreon for tons of additional content! This month, we will have episodes on Nightmare Alley, Initiation, Silent Night and a minisode on trailers that are way better than the movies they’re advertising. Plus, as a holiday present, an audio commentary on Gremlins!
