“End of the Road” – Road Trip Horror Month at Knight Light: A Horror Movie Podcast
Buckle up and prepare for a journey into the heart of terror with Road Trip Horror Month! This summer, the Knights are hitting the road and diving into the sinister side of travel, where every twist and turn on the highway leads deeper into the unknown. Road trips are meant to be adventures, but in these films, they become a one-way ticket to fear, where the familiar landscapes of freedom and escape are transformed into corridors of dread and despair.
Throughout the month, we’ll explore the unsettling idea that the road, a symbol of exploration and liberation, can quickly become a trap from which there is no escape. From the isolation of desolate highways to the lurking dangers in forgotten backroads, these stories delve into the fear of the unknown—what happens when you’re miles from safety, and the journey itself becomes the nightmare?
We’ll be discussing how these films tap into primal fears, like the vulnerability of being far from home, the terror of encountering the unexpected, and the horror of realizing you’re not alone on that dark, lonely road.
Sit back, relax, and bring your Knight Light as Prince Jackson and Freddy Nuti break down Wrong Turn, Alone, and Dead End. (The Hills Have Eyes was cancelled on the podcast due to scheduling, but we’ll keep it in mind for a future month!)
Wrong Turn (2003): Road Trip Horror Movie Breakdown
We kicked off with a harrowing drive through the backwoods of West Virginia. A group of friends found themselves hunted by a family of inbred cannibals. Their quest for a shortcut turned into a desperate fight for survival. Will they make it through the horrors hidden within the forest? Listen on Patreon or your streaming app.
Alone (2020): Road Trip Horror Movie Breakdown
Next, we traveled with a woman who thought she was escaping her grief by moving to a new town. Her road trip turned into a deadly game of cat and mouse. With a relentless stalker introduced, you’ll be on the edge of your seats. Alone showcases the terrifying lengths one must go to in order to survive. Listen on Patreon or your streaming app.
Dead End (2003): Road Trip Horror Movie Breakdown
We wrapped up our journey with a creepy tale of a family road trip that goes horribly wrong. On their way to Christmas dinner, they take a shortcut down a deserted road. The family finds themselves trapped in a nightmarish loop of supernatural horrors. Dead End was a haunting reminder that some roads should never be traveled. Join us as we navigate these chilling tales of travel gone wrong. Let’s discover why sometimes, the scariest part of the trip isn’t the destination—it’s the journey itself. Welcome to Road Trip Horror Month—where the only direction is straight into the unknown.

Shakespearean Education in the Vincent Price-Starring ‘Theater of Blood’ [Horror Queers Podcast]
Butch knows best…
After concluding May with discussions of the disaster “slasher” The Poseidon Adventure (listen) and Michael Biehn’s demon twink in the messy-but-watchable The Fan (listen), we’re heading back to the ’70s to discuss our very first Vincent Price film in Douglas Hickox‘s horror comedy Theater of Blood (1973).
In Theater of Blood, Vincent Price stars as Edward Lionheart, a disgraced Shakespearean actor who begins targeting the critics who shamed him. The gimmick? He’s taking inspiration from the death scenes in William Shakespeare’s plays! Aiding him is his daughter Edwina (Diana Rigg), who acts as the honeypot for her father’s macabre scheme.

Episode 388: Theater of Blood (1973)
Brush up on your Shakespeare and protect those poodles because we’re covering our very first Vincent Price film in Douglas Hickox’s horror comedy Theater of Blood (1973), a personal favorite of both Price and Diana Rigg.
Join us as we go all in on this somewhat episodic (but also educational!) proto-slasher, wondering if we’re supposed to know that’s Diana Rigg in hippie drag, and cackling at some of these murder set pieces.
Plus, “Handsy Dickman,” narcissistic gravestones, antisemitic stage makeup, and the ultimate debate: is it theatER or theatRE?
C/W: Attempted suicide, off-screen dog murder.
