“We met amongst the tall trees… remember?”
You never know what you’ll see on late night TV. Perhaps a celebrity hawking her latest film, a zookeeper showcasing exotic animals, or a medium deftly working the crowd. Anything and everything can appear on this particular brand of variety show, even a conversation with the devil himself. He’s the main attraction of the talk show featured in Late Night with the Devil, a faux documentary/found footage hybrid from writer/directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes. Or should we say she? The demon that haunts this ’70s set is Abraxas, an ancient deity with ties to the origins of many religions. And what’s more, this demon may just be a lady.
Late night host Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian) longs to be king of the airwaves. His show Night Owls has been plagued with middling Neilson ratings despite an all-out push to best rival Johnny Carson. Jack is also still reeling from the death of his wife Madeleine (Georgina Haig), a shattering loss that caused the likable host to retreat from the spotlight. But now Jack’s back and ready to take down the king of late night TV with a Halloween episode and a very special guest. Lilly (Ingrid Torelli) is a tween who’s just been liberated from a demonic cult. Her therapist June (Laura Gordon) believes she’s been possessed by a demon called Abraxas and has planned an interview designed to showcase her bizarre talents. But another spiritual force may be invading the set and what plays out in front of a live studio audience may send Jack on a collision course to hell.
The Lady Killers continue their series on the women of spooky season by diving into this quirky crowd-pleaser. Special guest Ashley Casseday from The Losers’ Club and the Keep It Weird Podcast joins co-hosts Jenn Adams, Sammie Kuykendall, and Mae Shults to chat about demons, possession, and all things supernatural. Who is the entity haunting the set? Could Minnie and Abraxas be working together? Is Jack the story’s true villain, and won’t Lilly stop looking into our soul’s?!? They tackle all these questions and more while revealing the real life secrets behind Jack’s shadowy society.
