Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland #2 reads like part of a fairy tale. It looks great; it reads like a childhood story and keeps the eyes busy on every page. If Jimmy falls asleep, he goes into a magical land called Slumberland. What goes on there is quite the sight to see…

Jimmy isn’t Nemo but no one in Slumberland seems to notice. The royal family of this magical realm has invited him to be playmates with the royal princess. Jimmy / Nemo is a young lad who just doesn’t want to play with girls, even if they are a princess. There’s more to the story than this but I think you get the general idea. Writer Eric Shanower has made this chronicle very easy to take in. This adaptation looks like a modern, yet very faithful look of the original in all the right ways.
The story is a straight-forward journey into a wondrous land. A ton of credit has to go to artist Gabriel Rodriguez. His panels look every bit as fantastical as a place called Slumberland ought to be. Everything looks clear and instantly engaging. I can only imagine the rest of this fun tale keeps the visuals popping off the page. I would have no problem sharing this story with children which is sorely lacking in the comics industry ironically.
This edition of Little Nemo in Slumberland is off to a fantastic start. It looks great; it reads smoothly and leaves off on a good hook. I know Shanower from his epic Age of Bronze work and believe he is truly in his element telling a story like this. Rodriguez I know only from reputation from his Locke & Key work. Having heard all the rave reviews for that, I believe this creative team will no doubt give audiences something spectacular here.
