“Afterlife” showed how seriously descendants take this terragenesis business as Skye is transported to her new home ahem…, Afterlife, and introduced to her vaguely-lightning powered “transitioner”. There is a minor reveal in that Skye’s immortal mother is still alive, and we catch up with her father after being absent the last episode. In one big happy super-powered family. All the inhuman stuff the real conflict that drives the show, and though I don’t desire a “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” without powers, I don’t feel nearly as hooked by what’s going on as I once was.
Meanwhile, Coulson and Hunter are scheming at Banner’s old stronghold while Coulson reminds us that he’s a good guy by not shit talking the “real” S.H.I.E.L.D when Hunter invites him too. Instead he devises a plan to find Skye through Ward by stealing a Quinn Jet with the help of Deathlok. Its so crazy it just might work. The return of Deathlok is most certainly a good thing, and his “upgrades” seem to be suiting him just fine. Plus, he doesn’t look like he’s made of dollar store plastic anymore. The good guys have a serious ass kicker on their side, for now anyway.
The Fitz and Simmons drama was predictable but it was nice to see the two of them reconnecting after all. New S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty delusional if they think this tight knit group is going to get on their program, and if Mae is joining the cause I have to imagine its to give her a better chance at recovering Coulson.
Alot of moves were made as we barrel toward the end of this season, this second half has been the most disconnected the series has been so far, but I have faith its all going to come together in a satisfying way in a few weeks. I’m looking forward to more Deathlok and Ward and seeing what Fitz has to say to him.
Positive:
-Deathlok makes his season 2 debut
-Fitz and Simmons finally on the same page
Negatives:
-The Inhumans stuff is starting to get a “Lost” vibe and not in a good way
-New S.H.I.E.L.D must be delusional to think Team Coulson are going to play ball
-Convenient that everything else that typically threatens to world has stopped so S.H.I.E.L.D can sort out their beef.
