[TV Review] “The Flash” S1E20 – ‘The Trap’
By Brady Steele / twitter: @mrbradysteele. There is plenty of drama and tense moments as ‘The Trap’ episode is set in motion this week. The question of blame and who started all of this wackiness is seen through so many character this episode. “This all keep getting crazier and crazier” says Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) and you have to admit it is going that way.
Time travel and Superheroes. Two story elements when done properly can be a ton of fun to explore. The future comes into view quite a few times this outing. Barry Allen / The Flash(Grant Gustin) gets a glimpse of what his future will look like when they discover the hidden A.I. Gideon who has been aiding Dr. Harrison Wells / Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) this whole time. It turns out she was created BY The Flash! What a twist. I loved that part.
Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) lets his guilt be known of letting Dr. Wells help The Flash (before he WAS The Flash) while he was in his coma after being hit by lightning. It’s interesting to hear this moment and see it unfold in flashback moments. Viewers get inside the head of Joe and what he was willing to do get his adopted son back. It’s a nice moment to see how much this cop really cares about his children. This also comes up when he refuses to give his blessing to Eddie when asking to marry Iris (Candice Patton). He knowsBarry and Iris belong together and wants nothing but that for them in the future.
All of this leads the gang to set a trap for Dr. Wells which spectacularly misfires. The person they do end up catching is last week`s villain: Everyman / Hannibal Bates (Martin Novotny). Reverse Flash reminds us all he’s “…always one step ahead.” It’s really enjoyable to see how layered the showrunners are making this arch enemy in the show. The possibilities now that everyone knows who he is make me giddy with excitement for the last three episodes. We finally find out much of a stalker / creeper / obsessed and patient manEobard Thawne has been these last fifteen years. Cavanagh really can portray unsettling very well. What’s next? Unleash the Rogues! Grodd! It’s all ramping up week by week and now we get to enjoy all the cool stuff.
