[5/5 Review] Don’t Miss “Weirdworld” #1

If you only read one Secret Wars tie in let it be “Weirdworld” #1. This book is beautiful, gruesome and wicked cool. It’s the utterly unexpected gem that no one should miss, even though it’ll probably be looked over by most.

There’s no Iron Man or Wolverine here to sell the book just Arkon, the warlord from Polemachus. You remember Arkon and Polemachus right? I sure don’t, had to look him up, but that’s just because I was curious. Don’t worry though, the accessibility here is through the roof. Weirdworld gives you everything you’d ever need to know, these could’ve been 100% original characters and it wouldn’t have changed a thing. Change the names and this could easily be an incredible creator owned title put out by Image or BOOM. In fact I wish it was, then it could continue on past Secret Wars, it’d probably be a lot more marketable and I feel it’d reach a larger audience. I guess what I’m trying to say is Weirdworld transcends its status as a tie-in and I love it to death.

We pick up mid endless journey with Arkon fighting Giant Squidsharks, while reminiscing about earlier fights with a swarms of flying spiders and a tribe of headhunters in canoes made of skinned human faces. This is WEIRDWORLD, anything is possible. Arkon has been trekking across Weirdworld for what seems like forever to him. He’s been at it for so long every day blends into a blur of blood and carnage, eternally searching for his way home, back to Polemachus.

Weirdworld is unabashedly spectacular in every conceivable way. The writing and art are in perfect synergy with each other crafting something wondrously weird. I can see this book being glossed over by many but if it’s given the chance it deserves it’ll shine brighter than anything else. Get the word out, push Weirdworld on everyone you know and make this book a hit!
