Four new Dark Sky Films titles have been added to our massive SCREAMBOX library, which already includes Willow Creek, Minor Premise, and The Deeper You Dig (details); Ghost Killers vs. Bloody Mary, Landlocked, and Possum (details); Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer 1 & 2, and Emelie (details); Stake Land, Summer of Blood, & Bitter Feast (details); and Wake Wood, Eaten Alive and Sleep Tight (details). Holy shit, right?!

The final batch of films is now streaming on SCREAMBOX and begins with Pollyanna McIntosh‘s Darlin’ (review), which she wrote, directed and stars in(!).

“In this sequel to Bloody Disgusting’s The Woman, a feral teenage girl is taken into strict Catholic care and prepared for her First Holy Communion.”

“Found at a Catholic hospital filthy and ferocious, feral teenager Darlin’ (Lauryn Canny) is whisked off to a care home run by The Bishop (Bryan Batt, AMC’s Mad Men) and his obedient nuns where she is to be tamed into a “good girl.” However, Darlin’ holds a secret darker than the “sins” she is threatened with, and she is not traveling alone. The Woman (Pollyanna McIntosh, The Walking Dead), equally fierce and feral, who raised her is ever present and is determined to come for her no matter who tries to step in her way.”

Written and directed by Jonathan Cuartas comes the festival horror-drama My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To.

In the film…

“Dwight (Patrick Fugit) prowls the streets after dark. He searches each night for the lonely and forlorn, looking for people who won’t be missed. Dwight takes no joy in this, but he needs their blood. Without fresh human blood, his fragile young brother Thomas cannot survive. Each death takes a larger toll, the burden of his crimes weighing heavier each time, threatening to crack his spirit. But Thomas (Owen Campbell) and his sister Jessie (Ingrid Sophie Schram) are all the family Dwight has left, and as a fiercely private and close-knit family unit, they depend on him and the rituals they’ve learned in order to keep their secret. But while Dwight yearns for another life, Jessie needs them to stay together. And always the boy must feed.”

“I conceived Blood Conscious as a film that takes place the day after a slasher film,” writer-director Timothy Covell explains. “But instead of opening on the lone survivor of a campground massacre, we focus on the family who finds him, setting in motion a chain of paranoia that leads to even more bloodshed over the course of the ensuing night.”

In the film, “Kevin, his older sister, Brittney, and her fiancé, Tony, set off to their parents’ lakeside cottage expecting a leisurely weekend getaway, but little did they expect the horror that awaits them. Their holiday turns into a trip from hell as they enter a scene of mass murder, where their parents and neighbors this side of the lake all lie dead.

“Terror strikes when the armed murderer confronts them, alleging to be fighting demonic forces that had possessed them all. They pin him down and lock him up in the cellar, but soon he claims to not to be alone down there. As unexpected and traumatic events keep unfolding, they will have to find a way to survive the night without turning on each other, or becoming possessed.”

Nick Damici (Late Phases), DeShawn WhiteLenny Thomas, and Oghenero Gbaje star.

Phillip G. Carroll Jr.‘s “Black Mirror”-esque The Honeymoon Phase is also now streaming on SCREAMBOX.

The official press release describes the film as, “A paranoid sci-fi thriller about the nature of trust in relationships.

“The Honeymoon Phase is as much classic Twilight Zone as contemporary Black Mirror, and an all-too-terrifying answer to the question, “How well can you ever really know someone?”

In the film, “Down on their luck and needing quick cash, struggling young lovers Tom and Eve lie about their relationship in order to enter THE MILLENNIUM PROJECT, an experiment for married couples run by the mysterious Director and Handler. With the promise of $50,000, Tom and Eve must survive 30 days isolated together in a futuristic smart home, while the researchers attempt to determine why couples fall out of love. Throughout their stay, Eve begins a violent descent into madness as she questions if her lover is the man she thinks he is.”

Jim Schubin (Boardwalk Empire), Chloe Carroll, Tara Westwood (The Grudge) and Francois Chau (The Expanse) star.

The Birthday Murders: Viral Marketing Website Launches for ‘Longlegs’

Published

on

NEON has been absolutely slaying the marketing game for their horror output this year, and they’re kicking the Longlegs campaign into high gear with one more month until release.

A cryptic ad in The Seattle Times today (seen below) has led clever horror fans to discover TheBirthdayMurders.net, the brand new official viral marketing website for Longlegs.

The in-universe website details the victims of the serial killer known as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage), described as a “Satan-worshipping psycho” who has terrorized families throughout the Pacific Northwest for nearly three decades.

The website details, “A bloody trail of bodies here in the great state of Oregon attests to the depraved savagery of this one-of-a-kind serial killer. With over three dozen victims that we know of, LONGLEGS is one of the most prolific mass murderers ever to have graced the region, and his gruesome endeavors are the stuff of nightmares. At first, all of the killings appeared to be straightforward murder-suicides: the handiwork of average men who suddenly snapped and slaughtered their wives and children. But a series of eerie coded messages left at the crime scenes indicate that someone – or something – is influencing these horrific crimes. The cryptic letters are signed by someone calling himself LONGLEGS.”

“With thirty-eight kills to his name, LONGLEGS has torn apart the lives of eleven different families throughout the Beaver State. His victims were good people: honest fathers, decent mothers, innocent little children.”

The website is loaded with secrets, clues, and gruesome (faux) crime scene photos, and you might even find a mention of yours truly nestled in there. Poke around. Stay a while.

Longlegs arrives in theaters July 12.

The upcoming serial killer horror movie marks the return of director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.

In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

The film is rated “R” for “Bloody violence, disturbing images and some language.”
