We’re celebrating the Netflix release of The Raid director Gareth Evans‘ Lovecraftian nightmare Apostle, which is streaming now. Those who are fans of The Raid or the “Safe Haven” segment in our own V/H/S/2 are in for a treat in a film that brings hell to The Wicker Man.
Whitney Moore, who tackles Bloody Disgusting’s “This Week In Horror”, is here with a video special that takes an exclusive look behind-the-scenes of Apostle, which stars “Legion” and The Guest‘s Dan Stevens with Underworld franchise star Michael Sheen.
Those who have seen the film will enjoy a look at in-the-works stunt choreography as well as several pieces of never before seen concept art and production images from Apostle.
Evans returns to the world of sadistic cults in his latest film, which picks up in London, 1905.
“Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Apostle is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.”
