Now, Marvel darlings Joe & Anthony Russo are disturbing MGM’s burial ground as they’ve been given carte blanche to make films from anything in the studio’s library, Deadline is reporting. Of the massive library, it’s already been decided that the duo will be tackling another remake of Poltergeist, which would be co-developed, co-produced and co-financed by the filmmakers behind some of Marvel’s best films: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and this summer’s Avengers: Endgame. That’s pretty exciting.

Gil Kenan directed the 2015 remake about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces must come together to rescue their youngest daughter after the apparitions take her captive.

Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmaking duo behind Captain America: Civil War and Winter Soldier, are teaming up with A Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick to bring horror adventure video game “Little Nightmares” (read our review) to the small-screen, THR just broke the news.

The Russo Bros will develop and exec produce the television series with Dmitri M. Johnson and Stephan Bugaj of DJ2 Entertainment, the company making a name for itself adapting video games such as “Life is Strange” and “Sonic the Hedgehog”.

Selick will direct the pilot and possibly other episodes.

The game follows a nine-year-old girl named Six who finds herself trapped on the bottom of a terror-filled ship named the Maw. With hunger and the depths one goes to satiate that hunger as the themes, the storyline follows Six as she tries to move up the ship while evading capture and death at the hands of characters named The Janitor, the Twin Chefs, and the Lady.

Dan Jevons will act as a producer while Samuel Gatté will executive produce for Bandai-Namco. Russo company exec Mike Larocca will act as co-executive producer.

The Russos, via their yet-to-be-named company, are developing projects for various media, recently partnering with Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, the team behind indie breakout Swiss Army Man, on an original sci-fi movie venture. The Russos are in post-production on the mega-Marvel production Avengers: Infinity War, which is slated for a May 4, 2018 release.

Selick is the Academy Award-nominated director behind not only the classic Nightmare Before Christmas but also 2009’s Coraline and 1996’s James and the Giant Peach.

In the original film, which was directed by Walter Hill, “…a charismatic leader summons the street gangs of New York City in a bid to take it over. When he is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed and now must fight their way home while every other gang is hunting them down to kill them.”

The TV series will be done for Paramount TV and Hulu.

Well, as one might have expected from the deafening silence surrounding that project, it’s completely dead and buried with no chance at becoming a non-repeating phantasm, or a class-5 free roaming vapor.

Joe Russo told Forbes the following:

There is no status with that for us. There was a period there when Paul Feig was engaging Sony in talks about Ghostbusters and we were also engaging them. He was further along with his process than we were and he closed his deal so that’s the only Ghostbusters world that’s being explored right now over at Sony. Once we took Infinity War it [took] us off the table for any kind of any potential work on a Ghostbusters project.

The Russos are gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War, which comes out May 6th.

I don’t understand the forcing of gender into these Ghostbusters films, but it’s becoming clear that men and women catching ghosts together is no more conducive than cats and dogs living together (I’m clearly being sarcastic).

Sony/Columbia Pictures, for whatever reason, feels the need to push the all-female and all-male gender card on the Ghostbusters franchise. Frankly, I just want to see a good movie with really good actors, male or female.

So, while Paul Feig is developing his all-female reboot (with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon), Deadline breaks the news that an all-male Ghostbusters is also on the way, possibly starring Channing Tatum.

Sony Pictures is forming Ghost Corps, a new company whose principals include original Ghostbusters architects Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd; they will have offices at Sony with the mission to scare up branding opportunities based on the 1984 comedy classic.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (awesome movie) helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, who just made a first look Sony deal and are looking to direct and produce. Drew Pearce, the Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible 5 is penning the screenplay. Lastly, Channing Tatum and his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan, who are attached to produce. The hope is for Tatum to play one of the Ghostbusters in this film.

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman told the site. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following hear. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”
