Superhero movies have taken over the blockbuster charts in recent years. We are due for a film that puts it all in perspective with some black comedy. Given director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s credits (Biutiful, Babel, 21 Grams), he seems like an unlikely talent to take on a superhero flick, but Birdman is more of a metatextual commentary on the genre. Birdman sees Michael Keaton as a washed up actor who once played the role of the iconic Birdman hero. Now he attempts to mount a Broadway play in attempt to relive his glory days. If you read Jeff Lemire’s “Animal Man”, this may sound a bit familiar. Check out the trailer below for some Michael Keaton in his tighty whities.
Birdman is slated for an October 17, 2014 release.
