It’s no secret that it’s mainly women who end up surviving horror movies these days. It’s a common trope called “The Final Girl”, a coin termed by Carol J. Clover. The basic idea is that the female protagonist is the true star of the film, even if we love watching the villain. And throughout the movie, that heroine goes through some serious growth, be it physically, mentally, or emotionally, and is able to defeat her enemy. Perhaps the most most perfect example of this is Nancy from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Additionally, the trope is so common that there is even a movie called The Final Girls.
But there are several others that have appeared throughout horror cinema and HalloweenCostumes.ca has created an inforgraphic, which you can see below, that goes over several memorable “final girls” and a little bit about each of their endeavors.
