Look, I realize that the headline seems over the top and possibly even rather “clickbait-y”. However, I assure you that once you read through this post then you’ll fully understand why I honestly believe the statement to be true. Alright, let’s do this.
Anthony Petrie is an artist who has been working for over a decade and has teamed up with some of the biggest names in the industry. He’s designed movie posters, branding, apparel, and more. Ever pushing the boundaries, in 2015 he created a gallery of pieces called chART1, which made nautical maps out of movies and other pop culture properties. For example, just look at his Jaws-themed poster, which shows Amity Island as part of Bruce the Shark. It’s pretty incredible but Petrie knew that he could do better. After all, what kind of artist doesn’t find joy in challenging themselves to do something a bit more grand and exciting?
Enter Petrie’s poster for John McTiernan’s classic 1987 sci-fi action film Predator, which he will be debuting at chART2 when it opens September 3rd at Gallery 1988 West in Los Angeles, CA. The poster is printed on thermochromic, heat-reactive ink, according to io9, which means that it actually changes colors when you put your hand on it and warm it up! It’s just like the heat vision from the movie!
Furthermore, supposedly the Predator on the poster will disappear once heat is applied. Seriously, how freaking cool is that?!
Petrie will be showcasing other posters that utilize pop culture icons as the foundation for the maps. For example, check out this one of Godzilla.
