Even though the title sounds more like a board game than a cool movie title, Safe House and Child 44 director Daniel Espinosa is behind Columbia Pictures’s new sci-fi thriller that looks like Ridley Scott’s Alien meets Gravity. I know a lot of movies take inspiration from Alien, but I can’t stress enough how eerily similar Life looks.
The biggest caveat for me is that it stars Jake Gyllenhaal, one of the best actors on the planet, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya.
Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.
Life is discovered on May 26, 2017.
