‘Scream’ and ‘Psycho’ Stars Saved by Google’s Pixel 3 in These Hysterical New Commercials! [Video]

One of the big winners of the ongoing Academy Awards is Google, who just ran a series of commercials where they imagine several high profile films with the invent of the Pixel 3 phone. Two were slashers, Alfred Hitchcock‘s iconic Psycho (196) and Wes Craven‘s infamous Scream (1996), both of which I’ve embedded below.

The spot for Psycho is hysterical as Janet Leigh‘s Marion Crane uses Google to find a nearby hotel, only to find out the Bates Motel only has a one-star rating.  As for Scream, Drew Barrymore‘s Casey Becker uses modern tech to spot Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in his Ghostface mask waiting by the front door (would this have even worked with there being two killers?). No matter, both of these spots are wonderful and the best thing to happen at tonight’s Oscars outside of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse winning best animated feature.

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
