Bloody Disgusting’s BJ Colangelo Joins the “Queer Fear” Panel at the San Diego Comic-Con!

Bloody Disgusting is excited to share the news that our very own BJ Colangelo has been invited to join the “Queer Fear” panel at this month’s San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place Friday, July 19 from 7-8pm.

“I’m extremely excited to be a part of this year’s Queer Fear panel. As an openly queer horror journalist and filmmaker, I’ve spent most of my time having to overanalyze subtext and characters in an attempt to see myself and my life experiences represented,” Colangelo tells us. “While I don’t think we’re quite there yet, I think we’re soon going to see an uptick of queerness on the forefront of horror, and not just relegated to camp aesthetics and coded language.

“I’m happy this panel exists, but I’m more excited that actual queer people are going to be the ones talking about it,” she adds. “Nothing about us, without us. I can’t wait to dissect it all at Comic-Con.”

Here are the full event details:

“The queer community has had a long history with the horror genre, from “coding” within the Universal monster classics to the oft-cited A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and beyond. Does a queer horror genre exist, and if so, what makes it different from mainstream horror? Furthermore, how does the current cultural and societal climate alter the lens through which we celebrate and connect to the macabre?
