“Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding, almost as though you sense a disquieting metamorphosis. Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination — hmm?”
One of the most iconic and memorable lines in Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” attraction takes place in an early holding room in which guests witness a room stretching right before their very eyes. The illusion is sold with several paintings that elongate along with the room, and turn what appeared to be a normal portrait into a nightmare situation for the subject in the art.
The prestigious and reputable Van Eaton Galleries announced today a massive Disneyland and Disney World auction that includes a handful of very cool “Haunted Mansion” items that are a must-own for collectors with an extremely large bank account.
While a look through the catalog reveals original sheet music for “Grim Grinning Ghosts”, original concept art, and an original silk-screened attraction poster, the big items include two of the original hand-painted stretching portraits designed by legendary Imagineer Marc Davis. The item description claims these were actually used within the Disneyland attraction! They’re expected to run $100,000 and up. If you win them both, anticipate spending the rest of your life trying to acquire the others.
