Department of Defense Has Officially Released Three Videos Showing “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena”

As you may recall, the U.S. Navy had officially declared last year that mysterious flying objects in three videos released to the public via Blink 182 musician Tom DeLonge‘s To the Stars Academy of Arts & Science back in 2017 are “unknown” aircraft, and now the Department of Defense has officially declassified and released those three videos this week.

Filmed by U.S. Navy pilots in November 2004 and January 2015, the videos showcase what’s being officially referred to as “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.” Navy spokesperson Joseph Gradisher explained last year, “The ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena’ terminology is used because it provides the basic descriptor for the sightings/observations of unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects that have been observed entering/operating in the airspace of various military-controlled training ranges.”

Mind you, simply because an aerial vehicle is “unidentified” doesn’t mean that it’s piloted by alien beings, but those official statements on the three videos represented a big turning point in how seriously the U.S. Navy is taking reports that previously would’ve been written off. And it’s certainly noteworthy that the videos have now been released by the Pentagon.

A statement sent out today explained, “DOD is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos. The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as “unidentified.”

The statement continued, “After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena.”
