Mall of America Opening a Massive 45,000 Square Foot Haunted Attraction This Halloween Season!
A haunted attraction… inside the Mall of America?! Being described as “a new breed of haunted house,” Onionhead’s Revenge is coming to the Mall of America this Halloween!
Being presented by American Monsters, Onionhead’s Revenge is set to feature “45,000 square feet of terror,” and “elaborate set designs” for “a haunt experience like no other.”
According to Bring Me the News, the attraction will be running from September 15 – October 31, and it sounds like they’re giving Halloween Horror Nights a run for their money.
“The intricate detail and one-of-a-kind offerings, such as specialty bars with themed cocktails and food, will create a haunt experience like no other,” the team promises. Much like Universal’s HHN, they’re also promising “terrifyingly evocative sets” as well as “media-based scare moments, theatrical lighting, special effects, and an original soundtrack.”
American Monsters teases the premise for the attraction…
According to local legend, “Onionhead” is the cruel nickname forced upon a young man from Slidell, Louisiana, who was brutally murdered by a vigilante mob after being wrongly accused for the murder of a young woman. Consumed by rage, the assailants hacked his body into 13 pieces and scattered them in a nearby cemetery.
Swearing vengeance, his mother put a hex on the townspeople who took her son. In the months following, those responsible for Onionhead’s murder were each victims of gruesome deaths.
Locals still report sightings of a monstrosity, hideously stitched together, stalking the cemetery… and out for revenge.
“We are thrilled to partner with the leaders in the haunt themed entertainment industry to open a first-of-its-kind Halloween attraction,” said Chris Grap, Vice President of Experiential, Mall of America. “American Monsters will bring to life their creative and terrifying concepts, turning nightmares into reality. Opening an elevated haunt experience in addition to our exceptional seasonal festivities will make Mall of America the perfect destination for Halloween enthusiasts.”
American Monsters is hiring now for this year’s Mall of America attraction, and you can sign up and learn more over on their official website. Pre-sale tickets release on August 1.
The Mall of America is located in Bloomington, Minnesota, and it’s notable for being the largest shopping mall in America. It’s also the eleventh largest in the entire world.
