It’s always fun in the horror community when a Friday the 13th comes around, and this year is going to be an extra special year for all of us. For the first time in ELEVEN YEARS, there will be three Friday the 13ths throughout 2026, the maximum amount a single year can ever have!
The last time a single year had three Friday the 13ths in it was eleven years ago back in 2015, and the rare phenomenon won’t happen again until 11 years from today, in 2037!
In addition to today, you can expect Friday the 13ths in March and November of this year. Yes, that’s right, we’re already getting another Friday the 13th one month from today!
The name for an irrational fear of Friday the 13th? That’d be friggatriskaidekaphobia, but horror fans certainly have no reason to fear Friday the 13th this year. While it’s been a long 17 years since the last time Jason Voorhees was up on the big screen – the 2009 Friday the 13th remake turns 17 years old today, in fact – Jason’s long-awaited return is on the horizon.
We are expecting that this year will see the premiere of A24 and Peacock’s “Crystal Lake,” the official Friday the 13th prequel television series. It will be the franchise’s first official installment in the aforementioned seventeen years, and its first Jason-centric TV series, with Brad Caleb Kane (“IT: Welcome to Derry”) steering the ship as the project’s showrunner.
What can we expect from “Crystal Lake”? Brad Caleb Kane recently told Entertainment Weekly in an interview, “In many ways, it’s a psychological thriller. It’s a paranoid ’70s thriller.”
He continued, “It has all of the DNA of a slasher without quite being a slasher. There are rivers of blood in the show. There are very, I think, ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it’s all done in service of character and theme and place and time.”
Brad Caleb Kane also teases that star Linda Cardellini, who plays Jason’s mother Pamela Voorhees in the series, is going to “shock and surprise a lot of people” with her performance.
Callum Vinson is playing a young Jason Voorhees in the series, with Linda Cardellini starring as Mrs. Voorhees. The series will serve as an expanded prequel to the 1980 slasher.
What else is going on in the world of Jason Voorhees? Beginning today, the original Friday the 13th movies are returning to Regal theaters for all three Friday the 13th dates this year.
Here’s the schedule from Regal:
- February 13 – Friday the 13th (1980) and Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
- March 13 – Friday the 13th Part 3 3-D (1982) and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)
- November 13 – Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
