Google Search has been tracking the top Halloween search trends this October, and they’ve launched the Google Frightgeist this afternoon to share what they’ve found with the rest of us.
How it works is that Google has compiled the top trending searches for different topics, with “trending” referring to the searches that had the biggest spike in interest over a period of time.
The top trending Halloween Costumes and top trending Horror Movies are of the most interest to us here on Bloody Disgusting, and there’s one movie that shows up on both lists: Casper Kelly’s killer unicorn horror-comedy Buddy. While Curry Barker’s Obsession likely didn’t make the top trending horror movies list only because it was released much earlier in the year and therefore the conversation has waned a bit, it’s represented in the list of top trending Halloween Costumes.
Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is also found on both lists this year.
First up, let’s take a look at the Google Frightgeist’s top trending horror movies…
- Buddy
- Other Mommy
- The Whisper Man
- Passenger
- Brute
- Insidious: Out of the Further
- Resident Evil
- Arachnophobia
- Hokum
- Backrooms
- Leviticus
- Send Help
- Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
- Ice Cream Man
- Colony
There are a couple notable surprises on this list, with Brute and Arachnophobia being particular standouts. Brute is referring to the indie film Brute 1976, which didn’t make much noise with its release earlier this year, while Arachnophobia is the only movie on the list that wasn’t released this year. It’s a 1990s classic, of course, though there have been recent talks of a remake.
And here’s the list of the Google Frightgeist’s top trending Halloween costumes this year…
