One of last year’s coolest things was USAopoly’s The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31, a board game that allows you to become an active participant in John Carpenter’s film. In the “hidden identity game,” you embark on “a race to discover who among the team has been infected by this heinous lifeform.”
You get to…
“Play as one of 12 characters as you lead a series of investigations through Outpost 31 using supplies and equipment to clear the building. The tension mounts and paranoia ensues as you question who you can trust in the ultimate race to save humanity!”
The 12 playable character pieces each depict the characters from the film, such as MacReady, Palmer and Blair, but each piece is one solid color rather than finely detailed to resemble the iconic characters. This led fan Ken Stachnik to give the game an upgrade, hand-painting each character piece to better resemble the movie’s characters.
Check out Ken’s handiwork below, which may inspire you to customize your own pieces!
