“Bates Motel” Signs in its Most Iconic Guest: Season 5 Will End the Series #SDCC
News is coming out of a San Diego Comic Con panel that A&E’s “Bates Motel” has locked down R&B artist Rihanna to play the role of Marion Crane, the iconic guest that appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and didn’t exactly meet a happy ending. Crane was originally played by Janet Leigh, the mother of Jamie Lee Curtis.
Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin told the audience, “We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
Cuse talked with EW and assured them that even though people have seen Psycho, they won’t be able to anticipate what’s coming for their take on Crane. “We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don’t want to do is create the impression that we’re redoing the movie because we’re not at all. She’s a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way,” he explained.
In sadder news for fans of the show, it was also confirmed that the fifth season will end the series. However, stars Freddie Highmore, Nestor Carbonell, and Max Theriot are each going to direct at least one episode.

You’ll find several interactive items. Click on the gramophone to set the mood with some spooky music. Tap on the birdcage to hear an ominous message from the parrot inside: “I’m going out, try not to die.” Press on the TV to watch clips from a fake reality show called Lair of Love. And if you tap on the window during the daytime … they’ll tap back.
There are also Easter eggs hidden at specific times. We’ve discovered three: a disorienting shot of Fanning’s character’s car at 5:52 PM, a closer view of the captives at 11:11 PM, and a glimpse of monitors at 12:46 AM. Let us know if you find any more in the comments…
