“The Exorcist” Season 2 Casting News; Geena Davis Will Not Be Back

We couldn’t have been happier to learn last month that FOX had renewed “The Exorcist” for a second season, which is headed to the network on Friday nights this coming Fall. The fear was that the incredible series, a sequel to the original film, would go the way of “Hannibal,” and we’re positively thrilled that FOX surprised us with the renewal we had been craving.

So then, what can we expect from Season 2? TV Line reports today that Season 1 stars Geena Davis, Hannah Kasulka, Brianne Howey and Alan Ruck will NOT be coming back. This comes as no real surprise, as Season 1 seemed to completely wrap up the story of the Rance family.

Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels and Kurt Egyiawan will be back as series regulars.

This all lines up with what creator Jeremy Slater told us last year.  A potential season two would find Marcus, Tomas and Bennett tasked with helping a new family or a new case of possession,” he shared with us ahead of the renewal. “Our challenge now is to create a new family that you care about just as much as the Rances, and to find ways to make their story feel just as compelling and unique as what came before.

That doesn’t mean we’ll never see any of the Rances again,” he teased.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
