Syfy’s “Superstition” Finds its Cast
Syfy recently gave a 12-episode direct-to-series order to “Superstition”, a supernatural genre series produced by XLrator Media and Mario Van Peebles’ newly launched TV production company MVPTV, which is set to begin production in early 2017 and air on Syfy later in the year.
“The story revolves around the Hastings family, longtime owners of the only funeral home and graveyard in southern burg La Rochelle. In addition to providing services for all faiths, the family specializes in handling “afterlife care” for unexplained deaths at the hands of demonic ‘Infernals,’ as well as other unworldly phenomena that have long haunted the town. Over the years, the Hastings have developed a skill-set in the dark arts to help combat this Infernal problem. Using arcane weaponry, brute strength, mystical alchemy and a deep knowledge of the occult and ancient lore, they quell the evil within the shadows.”
The cast was announced today and includes Robinne Lee (Fifty Shades Darker, Being Mary Jane, House Of Payne) is co-starring with Brad James (For Better Or Worse), W. Earl Brown (Preacher, Deadwood), Demetria McKinney (House Of Payne), Diamond Dallas Page (WWE Monday Night RAW), Morgana Van Peebles (We The Party) and newcomers T.C. Carter and Tatiana Lia Zappardino.
“’Superstition’ is an intelligent, boundary-pushing genre series rich in supernatural lore and myths, featuring an eccentric family who have an unusual connection to an otherworldly plane, and the dark force that unleashes the demons, creatures, and monsters that haunt our nightmares. There is a voracious global audience always seeking the next well-crafted genre series as evidenced by the success of “American Horror Story,” “Stranger Things,” “Supernatural,” “True Blood,” “Six Feet Under” and others,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
XLrator Media’s Barry Gordon and MVPTV’s Mario Van Peebles will produce, and Van Peebles (“Roots,” “Bloodline,” “Hand of God,” “Empire,” “Lost”) will also write, direct and star in some of the episodes.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is reteaming with Starz on a TV series adaptation of supernatural crime graphic novel Bone Parish, Deadline reports.
Diane Ademu-John (Dune: Prophecy) and Declan de Barra (The Witcher: Blood Origin) will co-showrun the project and executive produce.
The show’s logline reads: “In the dark underworld of New Orleans, the Winters family builds an empire around a powerful new drug—crafted from the ashes of the dead—that grants users vivid, haunting visions of the past. But as demand surges, rival factions, deadly secrets, and supernatural forces close in, pulling them deeper into a violent and inescapable nightmare of crime, horror, and family legacy.”
The graphic novel by writer Cullen Bunn (The Empty Man) and artist Jonas Scharf was published by BOOM! Studios; the publisher’s Stephen Christy and Mette Norkjaer will executive produce.

It takes crime, family, and power, and mixes it with something dark and supernatural, in a way that feels fresh. Exploring what happens when the world of the living gets mixed up with the world of the dead, this story has incredible depth, and we’re building a series that’s going to keep audiences locked in from the first episode,” Jackson said in a statement.
“We love going on new journeys with Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, and this one is unlike anything we’ve done before: a world steeped in horror and the supernatural, but still grounded in the family and crime storytelling our audience can’t get enough of. It’s a wild, bold swing, and exactly the kind of risk we want to be taking,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz.
