Confirming recent reports, HBO has just announced that “True Detective” is coming back for a third season, with Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali set to star!
The most exciting bit of news here? In addition to a returning Nic Pizzolatto, Blue Ruin and Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier will handle directing duties!
Per Variety, “the next installment tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”
Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.
Pizzolatto has written the scripts, but a production start is not yet known.
