Danny Glover Joins “Locke & Key”!
Up-and-comer Jack Mulhern has been cast as co-lead Tyler Locke, the oldest son of Rendell and Nina and a protective older brother to his siblings, in “Locke & Key”, Hulu’s one-hour horror/fantasy drama adaptation of the IDW comic by Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, Deadline writes.
And how about this… Danny Glover (Predator 2, Saw, the Lethal Weapon movies) will co-star in the pilot written by Hill and directed by IT‘s Andy Muschietti.
“Locke & Key” revolves around three siblings (Mulhern, Megan Charpentier, Jackson Robert Scott) who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine with their mother Nina (Frances O’Connor) only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
After his dad is murdered, Tyler (Mulhern) has to grow up quickly and wrestles with being a teenager and filling his father’s shoes as man of the house. Tyler’s life is even more complicated after discovering his ancestral family home has magical keys that give him a vast array of powers and abilities.
Glover will play Joe Ridgeway, the eccentric English Teacher at Matheson Academy. After the gruesome murder of their father Rendell, the Locke family moves to Matheson. Joe becomes a mentor to the Locke children and a friend to Nina, but he also knows some of the tragic secrets Rendell kept from his family.
Netflix has announced that its stepping back into the Parasyte universe with new live-action series Parasite: TAMIYA set for 2027.
The streamer is reteaming with Train to Busan and Parasyte: The Grey director Yeon Sang-ho for the new series based on the Japanese manga Parasyte (Kiseijuu) by Hitsoshi Iwaaki. Yeon Sang-ho co-writes with Ryu Yong-jae.
TAMIYA tells the story of “Ryoko Tamiya, a very levelheaded and ‘human’ parasite who begins to question how, or if, parasites and humans can coexist. Seen through Tamiya’s eyes, the world of Parasyte becomes a lens on survival, identity and what it really means to be human.”
Shioli Kutsuna stars in the new series as Ryoka Tamiya, playing the character in three ways: her human form, the supposedly violent parasite, and the parasite who struggles to coexist with humans.
Kutsuna said of her role, “Ryoko Tamiya is the most challenging role I have ever played in my acting career. This series was brought to life through the dedication of the entire cast and crew, who supported one another through every challenge along the way.”
Netflix Japan’s Sato Yoshihiro, manager of live action creative, added, “‘What makes a human?’ ‘Can we coexist with beings that are different from us?’ These questions posed by ‘Parasyte’ more than 30 years ago feel much more pressing for our modern society that has placed non-sentient AI at all of our fingertips.”
Kensaku Kakimoto and Kazuhiro Nakagawa direct the series.
Parasite: The Grey, the first series adaptation in this universe, debuted in 2024 on Netflix and remained on the Global Top 10 Non-English Shows list for four weeks and ranked #1 in 34 countries, making expansion all but inevitable.
