This Week’s “American Horror Story” Was Edited After Vegas Shooting
If you’ve been watching “American Horror Story: Cult,“ you know that the new season of the FX series certainly isn’t shying away from tackling current events head on. In fact, there’s no show on TV right now that’s more ripped-from-the-headlines than “Cult.”
But there’s one real-life current event that the series has no desire to evoke painful memories of. Back in September, a mass shooting scene was filmed for tomorrow night’s sixth episode of the seventh season, and Ryan Murphy revealed over the weekend that it’s been edited at the last minute in the wake of the recent Las Vegas tragedy.
“I just made the decision that I’m going to have all of that violence be shown for the most part off camera,” Murphy said at the New Yorker Festival. “Nobody ever talks about victims’ rights. That’s sort of a weird emotional discussion that’s never bridged. But I felt great sympathy for people who were affected, certainly, and family members and loved ones and people who are upset about the way the world is.”
Murphy continued, “My point of view was I believe I have the right to air it, but I also believe in victims’ rights, and I believe that now is probably not the week to have something explosive or incendiary in the culture because someone who was affected might watch that and it could trigger something or make them feel upset. So our decision was to re-edit it and I felt that that was the right move.”

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
