AMC’s CEO Sees No End in Sight for “The Walking Dead” as a Franchise

Much has been said and written about the recent ratings decline of “The Walking Dead, but it’s most important to note (as we have) that the AMC series is still a ratings monster in its eighth season on the air. Sure, the ratings may not be as high as they were at the show’s peak, but it’s still pulling in incredibly impressive numbers every week.

How many seasons can we expect? And what’s the overall health of “The Walking Dead,” at this moment in time? Via Deadline, AMC CEO Josh Sapan talked the future today.

The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word,” Sapan said during a conference call with Wall Street analysts today. “We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.”

[The franchise] is in great shape and the people who are managing that great shape are motivated,” Sapan added.

With the core series, spinoff series “Fear the Walking Dead,” web series’, video games and tons of merchandising, “The Walking Dead” is alive and well at this time.

And it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
