J.J. Abrams Shopping Sci-fi Series Centered On a “Monstrous, Oppressive Force”

So then is this part of the Cloverfield Universe?!

A handful of new J.J. Abrams projects are headed our way this year, including the untitled (formerly God Particle) third installment in the Cloverfield Universe, and Hulu’s Stephen King-based “Castle Rock,” but what else has the master of the mystery box got up his sleeve? According to THR, he’s currently shopping a brand new sci-fi series.

Abrams’ untitled, space-set spec script has already garnered interest from both HBO and Apple, “with producers Warner Bros. Television also open to additional bidders as the project is still being shopped.”

“Sources say the Abrams drama is about a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another land amid a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world.”

If it goes to series, Abrams will exec produce through his Bad Robot Productions.
