Greg Nicotero Calls “The Walking Dead” Return “One of Our Most Powerful Episodes”

When “The Walking Dead” returns to AMC next month for the back half of its eighth season, you can expect to be reduced to a blubbering mess. I say this, of course, because Carl Grimes will very likely lose his fight with a zombie bite during the mid-season premiere, the character expected to make his final appearance before his own father has to bury him.

The episode’s director, Greg Nicotero, promises it will ruin you.

I think it’s one of our most powerful episodes that we’ve ever produced,” he told EW. “When I watched the first cut of this episode, tears were coming out of my eyes 20 minutes into it.

Nicotero added, “I would compare this episode very much to the episode with [Tyreese’s death] in terms of really having some space to breathe with these characters as they process what happenedIt’s a beautiful episode and the people that clearly are upset about losing Carl and questioning where the show goes without Carl — I really do believe that a lot of people will put those feelings aside when they watch this episode because they’re really going to get an opportunity to make some peace with it.”

Season 8 returns on Sunday, February 25 at 9/8c.

The Witcher Season 3 Henry Cavill

Production on Season 4 of Netflix’s “The Witcher” is now underway, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill. Additionally, Netflix has announced today that “The Witcher” has been renewed for a fifth and FINAL season.

Netflix announces, “[Season 4] will be followed by a final season that’s being shot back-to-back with the fourth, and will complete the adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books.”

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” said creator/showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

The fourth and fifth seasons will cover Sapkowski’s three remaining books: Baptism of FireThe Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. As mentioned, Liam Hemsworth is taking over the role of Geralt from Henry Cavill, who played the character in the first three seasons.

“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” said Hemsworth. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Sharlto CopleyJames Purefoy, and Danny Woodburn will also star in Season 4, alongside Laurence FishburneAnya ChalotraFreya Allan and Joey Batey.

“After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are separated and traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.”
